Single row angular contact ball bearings have six different internal classifications for each individual part number. There are three different clearance bands as well as three different preload bands. (See chart below.)

Clearance Preload Chart

The most common way these bearings are supplied is with clearance. There are two very common axial clearance classes to keep in mind: standard clearance and high clearance. There is also a small clearance class that is common with the Torrington Fafnir product line that becomes more of a factor on larger bearings above bore code 17. Also FAG make "OU" clearance, which is popular on screw compressors "OU" is considered zero to very slight clearance. This catalog deals with these common clearances only because they become the majority of our supply of this product.

The actual axial clearance appears beside each part number to simplify your selection. It is recommended to try and select a product in the same clearance category with the same cage if possible. These tables are only a guide. The Axial Clearances quick reference page can be used to look up the actual axial clearance of different common brands to bearings on one page.

This information should be used as a guide only. If there is any cause for concern over an application please refer to the manufacturer's handbook for the equipment in question.
